A Note from the Director
Hello, my name is Glynis and I’m a recovering alcoholic/addict. I’m also a single parent, daughter, friend, sister, student and much more. Until recovery,
I only thought of myself as an alcoholic. I entered into recovery in 1990. Having spent eighteen months in a transitional house with
my two children, I began to understand the multidimensional issues that impact women and their potential for success.
I immediately went to college and earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Bachelors Degree in Human Resource Administration, a
Certified Addictions Counselor License and completed my Master’s Degree in Social Work. The Journey was not an easy one. Volunteering my time
in the community for several years, working with alcoholism and stumbling through my own recovery., I realized the need for more facilities
that focused only on women and their families. I was pained to learn that the transition house that I had been in no longer focused on
alcoholism/addiction. I was determined to create a program for women that was safe, structured and nurturing where they could begin to heal
and learn the necessary skills to live a sober life. Thus the Home of New Vision was born.
I know the success rates in recovery for women can be higher. Home of New Vision is a new, exciting and innovative program that assists in the
success of women and their families. I welcome everyone who believes in women to join the staff and residents in reaching the many women who
will be there for other women.
“Until we expand treatment opportunities for women and tailor programs to their specific needs, we will make little progress in helping addicted
women recover from alcohol dependency.” –Betty Ford
from Transitions, July 2001
